This week Laura talks with Shaq Williams, a physical and spiritual coach, trainer, and practitioner. From growing up in Trinidad to moving to the States; transitioning from soccer to boxing to yoga; and shifting from being withdrawn to outgoing, they cover a lot of ground. Shaq shares what he’s learned as a result of family pain, being unhoused, and erecting unscalable walls around his heart. Together he and Laura reflect on that moment so many of us can relate to when one’s survival skills no longer serve us and – once we have that insight – how to move forward.

About Shaq

Equiano “Shaq” Williams grew up in Trinidad until his late teens when he moved to the U.S. to join his parents. He was an athlete from a young age, playing multiple sports and continuing soccer at the collegiate level where he also found boxing. After getting a degree in math and physics, he moved across the country to pursue an opportunity to coach boxing. He started his business BetterFunctioningBiology in 2020 and expanded his boxing coaching to include physiology, psychology, yoga, and many more modalities to help his clients. Shaq is a unique, natural leader and a gifted coach, inspiring those around him to achieve optimal health in mind, body, and spirit.
